beyond a kitchen and patio remodel

Some remodeling projects stand out because of the number of moving pieces involved. This Bellaire kitchen and patio remodel is one of them. What began as a plan to improve the kitchen and refresh the patio evolved into a complete transformation that included reconfiguring and enlarging windows, expanding the kitchen footprint, replacing finishes throughout, updating the pergola, and building a privacy wall around a bathroom door in the living room.

Referred to our team by Coton House Design, the homeowners came to us with a clear set of goals: create more space in the kitchen, improve window efficiency, and update the outdoor living area with a cleaner, more modern look. By the time the project was complete, the home felt brighter, more open, and far better aligned with the way the homeowners wanted to live in it.

Opening Up the Kitchen and Updating the Patio

Every successful remodel starts with understanding what matters most to the homeowner. For this project, the priorities were simple but impactful:

  • Increase usable space in the kitchen.
  • Install larger, more efficient windows.
  • Replace an aging pergola with a more updated design.
  • Create a finished result that felt cohesive across both the interior and exterior spaces.

The existing kitchen had limited room to work with, and the patio structure no longer matched the look the homeowners wanted for their home. The remodel needed to solve those functional concerns while also delivering a polished final design.

Refined Design Meets Practical Features

As with many remodeling projects, the most important problem-solving happened after demolition began. Once we removed the pantry, we discovered a second-story drain pipe above the dropped ceiling. Because the pipe had been concealed within the pantry structure, it had not been visible beforehand. It was also too large to run through the top plate of the wall, which meant relocating it was not a practical option.

Rather than allowing the issue to disrupt the design, our team developed a solution that preserved both function and appearance. We boxed the pipe in, finished it with drywall, and incorporated it into the corner of the kitchen ceiling as a seamless architectural feature. What could have become a visual obstacle was instead resolved in a way that kept the project moving and maintained the finished look of the space.

Project Highlights

This project brought together several upgrades at once, but a few elements especially define the finished result:

  • A larger, reconfigured kitchen with improved flow
  • Expanded windows that bring in more daylight
  • New cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and flooring that work beautifully together
  • A modernized patio with a sleek metal pergola and covered system
  • Trex stairs and railing that complete the outdoor update
  • A thoughtful solution to an unexpected structural challenge hidden in the kitchen ceiling

The final result is a home that feels more functional, more inviting, and more intentional in every detail.
